Economic Development Framework

Destiny Driver

With the formation of the Voyage Forward Marketing Partnership, this driver is complete.

The Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF) Economic Adjustment Strategy recommended nine strategic initiatives.
All nine initiatives are at least touched on by Destiny Drivers. Some have Champions. This was not done by design. The Drivers were identified using all three assessment tools of the community engagement initiative of Voyage Forward – The Four Questions, Community Survey, the Newmark Economic Adjustment Strategy,

Initiatives

  • Structure and Operations
  • Business Retention and Expansion
  • Marketing
  • Infrastructure and Recruitment Readiness
  • Workforce Development
  • Entrepreneurship and Small Business
  • Professional Development
  • Business Recruitment
  • Cross Border Partnerships

The number one recommendation from the Economic Adjustment Strategy was to develop a regional economic development partnership. The rationale for this partnership was to provide for one message, one entity responsible for all economic development activity in Koochiching County with broad government, business and citizen representation.

Recognizing the legislative constraints in developing an economic development partnership, the agreed upon framework provides for broader public and private representation and participation from throughout the county while retaining the public development authorities and leveraging the significant state funding directed under statute to the Koochiching Economic Development Authority (KEDA). The framework will include and align the resources of KEDA and all economic development entities within the county.

Outcomes

  • Broader representation and input to the KEDA Board.
  • Enhanced marketing plan, communications plan, and partnerships which support the one message.

Under the auspices of the KEDA Board and led by the KEDA Executive Director, the partnership will develop a unified brand and messaging which reflects the entire county. Partnership representation will consist of representatives from all Cities within the County, business and organizational representatives from key economic development partners including Chambers, RRCC, CVB Workforce Center, and financial institutions.
